Na Fili

Image
Na Fili (The Poets) playing in Loughborough in 1976 . They start off with the Cork March and then go into Whelan's (a tune very similar to Morrison's). They were a trio comprising of piper Tomás Ó Canainn (who died in 2013), fiddler Matt Cranitch (quite well known now) and whistle player Tom Barry.

De Danaan The Rights of Man/ The Pride of Petravore

Image
De Danaan The Rights of Man/The Pride of Petravore The Rights of Man is a well-known tune. The Pride of Petravore, I think, is the tune of a song composed by Percy French . He wrote some famous tunes including Abdul Abulbul Amir; The Mountains of Mourne and Come Back, Paddy Reilly to BallyJamesduff. He died in 1920

Slowing Down Tunes on You Tube

Note: For some reason, you have to click the Read More button to see all this post. Dunno why. Update: it's just three little dots with this sort of blog template.  I've just discovered that you can slow down tunes on You Tube by using the little flower/rachet thing at the bottom of the picture. The one that says Settings when you scroll over it.  It doesn't seem to affect the key, but it does sound weird when it's slowed to 0.25% Might be handy for learning tunes. 0.75% speed is useful.  This link takes you to a page that shows the sheet music while the tune plays in a mechanical way. It's not an exact transcription, but near enough.

Liz Carroll - Irish/American fiddle player . Lots of tunes here. Geese in the Bog set        Down as Lacey's Sig/A tune for Charles/ the Geese in the Bog ...as one of the comments points out, Lacey's Sig should be Lacey's Jig. Duuh. Why didn't I think of that!  Cracking set though. Can't make out if there's a separate tune or a third part to Geese in the Bog.

Peak Fiddler Cooley's

Peak Fiddler's not Irish - I think he's from Derbyshire. But Cooley's Reel certainly is.
